We set off yesterday at 9.30am, heading in the direction of Brussels, for our first stop overnight at Le Manoir du Morimont, a 10 minute drive from the Herge Museum. It was perfect weather for the drive and we had absoultely no traffic problems. We each did approx 3 hours at a time, driving, with Jim doing 2 legs. We arrived about 5.30pm at the House and were met by Gert the owner, who showed us around and to our room. We have never seen such a beautiful house inside, stunning designer furniture, sculptures and art - these guys must be loaded. Gert also took us into the village and we had a first class meal in The Brasserie restaurant and he picked us up at 9.30pm to take us back.
After being introduced to his partner Luke, we headed to bed for an early night and then after a lovely breakfast, we left at 10.30am for our visit to the Herge Museum. It was amazing, full of original drawings of Tintin, models, films, visual experiences and all the history of Herge's life and work was played through headphones on an i-pod. Well worth the visit, although the shop is definitely to be avoided......I spent €150!!!!
We then headed at 2pm towards our next stop, Amsterdam, for tonight, arriving at 4.30pm at Hotel Artemis which is in between the airport and the city centre. After a snooze and a shower, we will head into the centre of Amsterdam for some nice food and perhaps a bit of the nightlife if we can stay awake! Tomorrow, we will make an early start and have breakfast in the centre of Amsterdam (hotel is too expensive at €22.50 per person!), visit a market, and then head off mid-afternoon to Ijmuiden in time for the overnight ferry to Newcastle.
