Amsterdam - Friday 2/3-Saturday 3/3/12

On Friday night we headed by bus into the city centre to Leidesplein for some dinner and a few drinks. We had a lovely Indian Curry just off the main square and then went to the Bulldog Cafe (my favourite place from previous trips!) for a beer and a 'joint'. Jim sat po-faced and disgusted with me, he wouldn't touch it - he is bad enough on the beer & wine anyway! It has been years since we have been to Amsterdam and you forget how beautiful it is, the atmosphere especially at night is buzzing with street entertainers.
On Saturday, we checked out early from the Hotel, and headed back into the centre by bus and had delicious scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for breakfast at Leidesplein, and then walked to Waterlooplein to the market, had a slow walk around there, then we headed to the Red Light area so that Jim could do some window shopping.... stopping on route to rest our feet over coffees. There was a queue of men outside one of the Live Sex Shows, so obviously that must have been a good place to go, even if it was only early afternoon! It was then time to head back to the hotel and drive to the Ferry in IJmuiden, for our overnight trip back to the UK.
We relaxed on board with some beers and cocktails before a lovely buffet dinner, and some more drinks listening to the cabaret.
Our cabin had bunks and I ended up on the top bunk as I was concerned Jim was going to fall out as he had drunk too much wine and beer.....hmmm. The room was a bit stuffy and hot, so I didn't get much sleep. Return trip we will be definitely upgrading to Commodore Class no matter how much it costs!
