Pretty Pisa - Tuesday 21st April, 2009

We headed off to the train station this morning for the 11am train to Pisa. We are staying in Hotel Pace overnight to catch our early flight at 6.30am tomorrow morning back to the UK, for a week.
Pisa is a very pretty city, and you guessed it, after checking into the hotel and a lovely Pizza lunch, we headed for the Leaning Tower. It is only 20 minutes walk from the hotel, along a beautiful main street full of designer boutiques.
The Piazza dei Miracoli (Miracle Square) was heaving when we arrived, and we went for a walk around, taking some good photographs. The Tower is under restoration (obviously falling down!), so we helped it a bit by trying to hold it up!
We visited the beautiful Cathedral beside it and then headed back to the hotel as it had started to rain, stopping for yet some more delicious Italian ice cream on route. We asked a horse and carriage driver how much it would be to take us back to the Hotel (bearing in mind it was only 20 minutes walk.....) and he said 50€. Think again chappy......I know we are tourists, but not mugs!
It is a lovely change to spend the night in a hotel and not have the sea lapping in your ears at night.
After a week at home, we will be heading back to Genoa on the 29th with our friends, Billy & Kath Stewart.
