We went by bus today to St. Tropez to have a bit of a nosey. The trip is only 30 minutes from Cavalaire and it was a lovely day with bright sunshine although there was a fierce Mistral wind from the NW.
We visited the Old and New Ports, with their huge Motor Yachts, and asked the Capitainerie how much it would be to bring GG here, for our next stop. 12€ Jim was told, per night! We were both stunned, as the book said 80€ per night in high season and most places we have been to seem to be charging the same rates throughout the year. So, looks like our next port of call will be St. Tropez, just to say we were actually berthed there - but we need the Mistral to die down first - the white horses were unbelievable in the bay today.
St. Tropez is a haven for shopping addicts, with designer shops such as D&G, Louis Vuitton, Longchamp and Hermes lining the quaint little streets. Needless to say, we bodyswerved these and headed to the market in the square!
We then had an amazing lunch overlooking the Old Port in a tiny little restaurant called L'Oasis. The decor inside was just beautiful with plants and Thai decorations all around. They specialised in Traditional French and Thai food and we plumped for Charolais Beef each. The Beef was the best we have ever tasted, perfectly cooked with crunchy onions and mushrooms on top - amazing. Jim had his with a Tarragon & Bernaise sauce and I had mine with a Walnut & Truffle Oil Salad, and they both came with Pan-Fried Potatoes. For afters, we had the tastiest of Lemon Meringue pie followed by a Coffee and Brandy, and some Jasmine Tea. It was one of the most memorable lunches we have ever had, not to mention one of the most expensive.......
