Au Revoir Ile de Porquerolles, Bonjour Cavalaire Sur Mer - Wednesday 4th February, 2009

After the last 3 days of huge winds (Force 8 Easterly called Le Tramontaine), and big seas, last night, as forecast, it calmed down, and we knew that today was the only day we could move on, or it would be almost another week on the Island.
Yesterday, we managed to get off the boat and went for another cycle ride (listed as easy……..not) to see more of the Island. It took us along muddy, gritty routes to the lighthouse with good views and then the rain started to threaten again, so we came back quickly so as not to get soaked. We made a new little friend too, a lovely little cat, who was so friendly. We gave her 2 full bowls of milk and she still wanted more, but enough was enough, and I could see her trying to get aboard, so we had to ignore her for nearly 2 hours and she eventually went off.
We were up this morning with the lark at 8am, double checked the weather forecast and had a look at the sea. Flat calm, phew!
There was a small window of weather this morning and we left at 9am, heading ENE towards Cavalaire Sur Mer. The big winds, gusting up to 65km per hour, were forecast to return early afternoon, so we travelled at 14 knots in perfect conditions to our destination, arriving at 10.30am.
We checked in with the Capitainerie who we had phoned at 8.15am, to make sure he had room for us, and he allocated us a good berth, stern to. It is only 8€ per night here, likely because it is a Public Port, and that includes electricity, and if we stay a week, it is 50€. A bargain to say the least!
The weather forecast for the next few days is not so good, so we will relax here until another little window appears for us to move on.
Cavalaire Sur Mer looks like a lovely village with a Casino (yippee!), good shopping facilities and all we need to do now is find a good Rugby Pub that will show the 6 Nations Tournament, starting on Saturday coming.
We had an afternoon stroll to check things in the village out and just happened to go into the Casino, as the rain had started. After a cup of tea and a beer, we decided to stick 20€ into a 5c machine called Zorro that was beckoning us. Lo and behold, we had 2 shots and we won 114€. Not bad for 5 minutes work!
Cavalaire Sur Mer is 43’10’.306N 006’32’.184E and we travelled 21nm today.
