Stormy Cassis - Friday 23rd & Saturday 24th January, 2009

Cassis is an absolutely beautiful little fishing village and we are moored in the harbour right in the centre.
It seems to be quite prosperous here, with lots of painting and improvements being done at the Yacht Club and Capitainerie, which makes a change from some of the run down places we have seen on our travels.
We spent Friday dodging the heavy rain and getting the washing and shopping up to date and on Friday evening we went for a lovely meal to Le Grand Large Restaurant on the quay. Their set menu of 27€ per head for 3 courses excluding wine, had lovely choices, and we had Garlic Mussels to start/Fish Soup, followed by Entrecote Steak served with Dauphinoise Potatoes & Mangetout/Grilled Sea Bream served with the same accompaniment and to finish TarteTatin/Creme Caramel. It was a lovely meal in a beautiful setting, just off the beach.
The winds picked up, forecasting Force 8 and more on Saturday and hurricane force South of here, and it was fun watching the huge surf lapping onto the beach from our table, thankful that were were indoors and not at sea!
On Saturday, after a leisurely start, we went for a walk around the shops, again dodging the rain and had a lovely relaxing afternoon with some chocolat chaud ashore. The village is very pretty with beautiful parks and fountains and the castle at the top of the hill is privately owned and is being run as an upmarket B&B.
The winds are now picking up and we walked along the quayside to get views of the harbour entrance and amazing waves and spray. The rain forced us back on board for the rest of the afternoon with a dvd.
The weather has to get worse through the night and tomorrow, before starting to ease off gradually. Right now our barometric pressure is sitting at 980mb, the lowest we have seen it for a while.
