Au Revoir Port Du Frioul, Bonjour Cassis - Thursday 22nd January, 2009

We said farewell this afternoon to the lovely Island of Pomegues, and Port Du Frioul. This has been a great stop for us, in a stunning setting.
After Force 8 winds, true to form, during the night, we were not sure if we would be able to leave today, but as forecast, things calmed down dramatically and as were were heading mainly Easterly with good shelter from the coast, we set off at 12.20pm heading South then East to Cassis.
There was a bit of a swell on, but nothing to get uptight about and then once we were through the Isle de Mairie and heading East, it was a perfect flat calm.
We travelled at a comfortable 13/14 knots and arrived at Cassis at 1.30pm.
The harbour is absolutely beautiful, set in the centre of the village with lovely restaurants and a castle at the top of the hill. The Capitainerie were expecting us, as we had telephoned them before leaving to make sure that there was room for us in the harbour, and we were met at the fuel pontoon, and directed to a berth, where they took our stern lines. Friendly French indeed!
We will be here for a few days due to the high winds from the UK coming across tomorrow and Saturday and are looking forward to exploring Cassis. And it looks like we will be having our Haggis Neeps & Tatties aboard for Burns Night on Sunday here!
Cassis is 43'12'.849N 005'32'.219E and we travelled 14.71NM today, taking our total mileage now to 1961nm.
