After the severe storms last night, we woke up to a brilliantly sunny morning, much calmer conditions and even the sightseeing boats were taking tourists out!
I spent the morning making the soup for tonight whilst Jim stocked up on some wine and beer as stocks were getting low........We then moved the satellite aerial ashore to a more stable environment so that we could get a better signal for tonight's BBC1 Scotland programmes on Burns. The village was extremely busy and the restaurants and cafes were full of people enjoying the sunshine. We couldn't get a seat outside for love nor money so headed back to the boat and had a couple of beers on the flybridge, enjoying the winter sun and people watching.
We had a lovely traditional Burns Supper listening to Eddie Reader singing Robert Burns on board with home-made Leek, Potato & Carrot soup to start, followed by Haggis (smuggled from the UK in a tin!), French Neeps and Mashed Tatties and then Mousse au Chocolat. With our trusty Burns Supper Companion book on board, we had a laugh reading some of the poetry & speeches and playing some songs on the guitar & clarinet. It is just as well it is winter here and quiet in the harbour or we likely would have had complaints - not about the noise, but the quality of the music! We then settled down and watched the comedy on BBC1 Scotland called No Holds Bard followed by the Celtic Connections concert celebrating Burns with Scottish singers which was a nice wee end to our first ever French Burns Supper. Here is a poem that I wrote last year and it was performed by Libby McArthur (Gina in River City) at Oran Mor Burns Supper in 2007:- It's entitled WHAT E'ER THE WHISKY BRAND, and I am sure you can work out who it might refer to! If you want to sing it, sing to the tune of A Red Red Rose:-

Oh my love he likes to take a dram
Thro' mornin', noon and night
He drinks the bottle 'til its dry
And staggers hame full flight.
Thro' mornin', noon and night
He drinks the bottle 'til its dry
And staggers hame full flight.
So where art thou my bonnie lad
So pissed ye cannae stand
But I will love you, still, my love
What e'er the Whisky brand.
But I will love you, still, my love
What e'er the Whisky brand.
What e'er the Whisky brand, my love
Tho' Famous Grouse is best
With Ginger Beer and Lime, my dear
Tae hell with a' the rest!
