We said farewell to Port Camargue today, and headed off this morning at 10.35am heading ESE towards Port Du Frioul. It was a lovely morning with blue skies, a bit of sunshine and some clouds.
At first, the sea was a bit lively from the South and then as the journey went on and we entered deeper water, the sea state became slight, as expected.
We travelled at 14-15 knots throughout the trip with not much to see on route, until we reached our destination just off Marseille, the pretty Islands of Pomegues & Rattoneau. They looked fabulous in the early afternoon sunshine.
We arrived at 3pm and berthed beside the Capitainerie and we were then directed to a sheltered berth and one of the men came on board to help us with our lines. This type of berth was stern to between boats, and then you picked up a chain that was affixed to the pontoon and lifted it up until the rope attached to the sea bed was taught and you secure it to your bow. There are so many different ways in the Med for mooring!
It is a stunning setting with little restaurants, bars & glaciers dotted alongside the quay, a small amount of apartments and then the rest is dramatic rock surrounding you. There is a daily frequent ferry which takes only 30 minutes to Marseille Vieux Port.
It is 20€ per night here which is expensive for what you get facility wise, but the surroundings are so beautiful, this makes up for it.
Port Du Frioul is 43’16’.614N 005’18’’.360E and we travelled 63.44nm today. This takes our overall mileage to 1946nm.
We will relax and enjoy this pretty island as well as take the ferry and explore Marseille (if it is really worth it we may move GG to the Vieux Port in the Centre) over the next few days before moving further East, provided the weather is right.
