Nevers is a beautiful town with lots to do and see. The weather has been a bit mixed over the last few days, but it hasn’t stopped us exploring.
It is about a 10-15 minute cycle ride into town from the Port de Plaisance and once you get there, it is quite hilly, but once you are up, you have coming back down to look forward to!
On Friday, after a lovely light lunch in Place Carnot, we visited the beautiful Cathedral, Saint Cyr. The stained glass windows were spectacular with the sun shining on them from outside. We then visited Espace Bernadette Soubirous which houses the body of Saint Bernadette who travelled from Lourdes to Nevers, and also a Museum about her life, work and experiences. We lit 2 candles and placed them in the Shrine.
On Friday night, we had a nice meal out at Le Riera which was a beautiful French Restaurant recommended by the Capitainerie. Appetisers of Salmon and Prawn Cream and Gazpacho with Foie Gras started us off which were complimentary and then we had Foie Gras with Brioche Toast/Smoked Salmon and Prawns with Aioli followed by mains of Magret de Canard au Cassis with Dauphinoise Potatoes (Jim had it with Au Poivre sauce) and to finish, I had Café Gourmand (coffee, liquer, plus a selection of mini desserts - crème brulee, blackcurrant ice cream and coconut sponge) and Jim had Citron sorbet but wished he had ordered mine! We washed all this down with 2 glasses of Sancerre White, a half bottle each of Sancerre Red and Rose.
Saturday was supermarket shopping day, yippee! - and then we explored more of the shopping area of the lower town before heading off on Sunday morning at 10am heading SE to Fleury Sur Loire, 13.13nm away.
