We awoke to a beautiful sunny day with hardly a cloud in the sky. We set off at 10am heading NE towards Santenay with only 4 locks to go through, so an easy day for a change!
There was not a breath of wind, such a glorious day. The scenery on route was beautiful, you can tell we are coming into wine country again.
We arrived at 11.15am and tied up on the Escale Nautique, travelling only 4.91nm today.
This is a amazing little village, almost as pretty as Sancerre, with an abundance of pretty flowers throughout the streets and a beautiful fountain in the main square. And, most importantly Wine Tasting!
After lunch aboard, we cycled into the village for a wine tasting at Mestre, Pere et Fils. We tried 4 whites and 4 reds, all excellent and all a different style to the Sancerre wines…… and all much more expensive - average of 15 euros per bottle. We bought 3 of each colour and they delivered them to our boat free of charge.
We met the Swedish couple who had moored behind us on a Bavaria 37’ Yacht and they joined us at the wine tasting and then back on GG for some whisky - their favourite tipple.
They invited us on board their boat for a bottle of wine, after we had dinner in Le Terroir restaurant just next to the beautiful main square. We chose a lovely outside table and were glad that we have arrived when we did as within 30 minutes all tables were taken, inside and out! We have a lovely meal in beautiful surroundings - a split starter of 6 Escargots and then Jim had the market fish of the day with market vegetables and I had Lobster in Gazpacho and they were all amazing, especially the Lobster - I would never dreamed of having this in a cold soup, but my god, it works well. We had the Assiete Gourmande for dessert, our usual mixed plate of small portions of everything and then some coffee and cognac to finish the meal off. Tres,Tres Bien!
We cycled back in the dark and had a nice bottle of wine with Larz and Ingra, the Swedish couple, aboard their yacht.
We will be staying here another day perhaps, with our next stop being Chagny, just 4km further away, with no locks to consider.
