Bye Bye Bangor, Allo Allo Ardglass - Tuesday 6th May 2008

It was farewell to Bangor and its famous Guillemots today. We have had a lovely week here, cycling lots around the coast roads. The weather has been very kind with the sun shining most days. We visited Groomsport, about 4 miles from Bangor, to see Cockle Row Cottages (which were closed!), but looked great from the outside anyway. The tea and home made scones in Cunningham's Coffee Shop made up for that, though, highly recommended!

We left at 11.30am (after an aborted attempt yesterday) and headed towards Copeland Islands (which is where we gave up yesterday due to thick fog). It was still a bit foggy, but nothing compared to yesterday. We had to knock our speed back to about 10 knots as it is very 'lively' around about this part and at times, I was sure we were helming a submarine! Once we got past this, it was a steady 14/18 knots to Ardglass (we have decided to break the journey to Dublin up).

We arrived at Ardglass at 2.30pm. It is a quaint, beautiful little town, with only 55 berths in the small marina, but nevertheless, it has much to offer, and needless to say, Jim's love for the Guinness meant heading to the local pub. It is much cheaper here than Bangor, £17 per night in the Marina including electricity, compared to £21 in Bangor.
Next port of call is Howth, Dublin.

A very big thanks for Fred at Ardglass Marina who allowed us use of his computer.
Ardglass is 54'15'.63N 005'35'.96W
