Days 5-7 - At Sea - India - Wednesday 14/11-Friday 16/11/12

James woke up this morning with a high fever of over 100, so it was a day in bed with cold towels and paracetamol to bring his temperature down. He was also feeling very bloated with a bit of an upset tummy - Norovirus here we come! So starvation was the order of the day and I had to lunch and dine alone! As the day went on, James improved and started to feel a bit better so thankfully we did not have to alert the ship's doctor and be confined to our cabin! It was a lovely day just relaxing in the room watching the in-house movies. On Thursday, James was much better and we got up for a yummy breakfast and I soaked up the rays on Deck 14 whilst James went to a couple of onboard lectures on Russian Spies and the history of Singapore. After a light lunch in the Oceanview cafe, we headed to the casino and some Blackjack (broke even). After some cocktails in the Passport Bar and our room canapes, we headed to Bingo at 4.30.$15 for 6 cards, full house only, and guess who won - me! $146 in my back pocket, we headed back to the room, to get changed for our second formal night. After a superb dinner, I headed again to the casino for Blackjack (even again!) then to the Theatre for the musical theatre production of GHOST which was very entertaining. Then it was the game show Mr & Mrs in Celebrity Central which was hilarious, some more casino - lost $50, and then a visit to the Sky Lounge to listen to the resident band Headliners there, and bed. Friday morning we were up with the lark at 6.45am to meet the Indian authorities on board for visa verifiction at 7.15am. After breakfast. we watched the ship dock in Cochin, India at 8.30am and then we headed ashore for our trip - Life In Vaikom. What a superb day it was - and what a lovely country India is, so colourful. We headed off on our coach for an hour and a half through the streets of Kerala to Vaikom. Driving was a sight to behold! When we arrived in Vaikom we were met by Indian drummers and a fabulous elephant. After photos, we headed to the village in Tuk Tuks (wonderful Piaggios with a hood!) which were such fun - and were entertained by the local villagers with coconut husking, basket weaving, rug making, copper jewellry making and even saw poppadums being fried in fresh coconut oil (which tasted wonderful!). Fabulous! We then headed to a local school for a visit and the poor nursery kids hid under their desks and cried - it was the first time they had seen white people and they were terrified! After returning to the ship, we lunched and sunbathed in glorious 34 degrees, had just a light dinner and watched the show in the theatre - comedy Juggler Pete Matthews who was very good. We had an early night as we were both knackered!
