Happy New Year everyone, we wish you good health, wealth and happiness. 2011 was a very special year for both of us and we hope that 2012 will be every bit as special too.
Last night, we put our glad rags on and headed out in a pretty wet, miserable night, to La Petit Auberge in Marly Sur Arroux for our French 'Hogmanay' dinner. The restaurant was totally full, we reckoned about close to 100 people. We had a glass of kir as an aperitif which was served with little cheese souffles and salmon pastries, then lovely amouse bouche tasters of prawn and vegetable pannacotta and duck foie gras & prunes. We both had starters of scallops in a grapefruit butter sauce, then langoustines with mushroom ravioli in lobster bisque, with a lovely lemon sorbet cleanser in between... and then different main courses of pigeon stuffed with foie gras and roast veal steak with mushroom sauce. A cheese trolley followed, then a pre-dessert of little creamy pannacotta and grapefruit, and at last (by this time we were so stuffed we were praying for the meal to end!) a chocolate and raspberry millefeuille. The meal was really delicious, but perhaps one or two too many courses for us. But nevertheless, the restaurant did well with the amount of people and service and presentation was exceptional. The church in the little village of Marly was all lit up beautifully, for the festivities.
We headed back to the house to celebrate the 'bells' for the first time in our french house and at midnight we let off some rockets to bring in the New Year, with a wee glass of whisky and Baileys. After that, we enjoyed 'Hogmanay Live' on BBC Scotland which was a great show, followed by Jools Holland's Hootenany. Great music all round.
We are going back to our Scottish roots today for dinner at home, with smoked salmon and prawns and haggis neeps and tatties for dinner.........more food......can't wait!
