Ciao Andora, Buon Giorno Savona - Tuesday 10th March, 2009

We ended up staying another night in Andora due to the heavy swell yesterday making conditions not ideal for Ginger Grouse. We also got a line caught around our prop, but luckily managed to disengage it in the middle of the harbour! The good side of this was, it ended up being the hottest day this year and we sunbathed on the fly bridge most of the afternoon in glorious hot sunshine. The wind dropped considerably after 1pm and the rest of the day and night was a perfect flat calm, so we knew tomorrow would be perfect for our move to Savona.
It was another early rise this morning and we headed off, after giving the little ducks their breakfast, at 9am, NE to Savona. It was a lovely morning, a bit hazy with some wispy clouds, but conditions on the sea were very different from yesterday, with almost no swell and flat calm conditions. There were magnificent views on route of the snow-covered Italian Alps and Jim saw 3 dolphins swimming alongside our bow - unfortunately I missed them and we didn’t get a photo either!
We travelled at a comfortable average of 16 knots, with the wind picking up a bit from the East as we approached Savona. We arrived at the Darsena Vecchia at 11am, and the harbourmaster met us and took our mooring lines, The harbour is right in the centre of town, a perfect spot for us to explore.
We will stay here until Friday and then, weather permitting, move to Genoa.
We travelled a total of 30.81nm today and Savona is 44’18’.504N 008’29’.123E. This takes our total miles to 2167nm and makes Savona our 77th stop.
