Au Revoir Verdun sur le Doubs, Bonjour Seurre, River Saone - Thursday 4th September 2008

Well, the dry morning didn’t materialise so we set off in the rain at 10.30am, heading for Seurre. The scenery on route was lovely, even in the wet!
We headed due North, keeping GG at 6 knots using alternate engines, to save on fuel consumption.
We came to our first lock on the River Saone at 11.30am and ten minutes before we arrived, we contacted them on the VHF, and advised them - Nous arrivons en dix minutes a l’ecluse en passage a Dijon - The lock controller seemed to understand as he responded with a tout a l’heure meaning he would see us later. The lock was ready and waiting for us with green lights giving us the go-ahead to enter. We are back to the huge River locks, similar to the Seine, and our favourite (not!) ‘Antlers’ style bollards that are recessed in the walls of the lock. Oh joy! Heavy rain started just as we were entering, so the yellow cagoule came in handy again……..
It was a lot easier than the Seine locks, likely because we were the only boat locking through, so we had plenty of room and plenty of time.
We then continued North towards Seurre, arriving at 12.30pm where we will stay a night or two. The Port de Plaisance and Capitainerie is well located to explore the town and has all facilities.
Seurre is 47’00’.031N 005’08’.601E and we travelled a total of 12nm today.
