We set off this afternoon at 1pm, heading SW towards Seurre, with the weather a bit overcast, but thankfully dry, although there was a snell wind in our faces.
We decided to travel at 6 knots on one engine, no point in wasting the expensive fuel as we were in no hurry. The Saone speed limit is 15 knots in the main areas.
We only had one large river lock to consider today with a 3.25m drop and we entered the lock at 2.40pm with 2 boats ahead of us, already tied up waiting. The German boat that we travelled with from Dijon was behind us, so once we were all safely moored, they closed the gates and we started our descent.
We were all out within 10 minutes and tied up at Seurre at 3pm. A relatively easy day compared to yesterday.
Our trip today shows us doing 8.93nm compared to the same trip in reverse on 5th September of 9.6nm, so we gained 0.67 of a nautical mile for some reason! Can anyone explain this? Add a comment to the blog if you can.
We have now travelled a total of 1536nm, through 242 locks and stopped in 54 places.
Seurre is 47’00’.031N 005’08’.601E.
There is some rain forecast for tomorrow, so we may chill out here a little longer than overnight if the forecast is correct.
