The weather over the past few days has been appalling, so St. Jean de Losne wasn’t one of our favourite stops mainly due to this. We have had constant rain, thunder and lightning, so we felt as though we were back in the UK!
The ducks here were hilarious, with another cheeky one like Louis from Rogny who quacked all day asking to be fed. On Saturday, they made their way along the pontoons, one after the other, like a military procession and Jim fed them bread from the boat, encouraging them to come aboard GG to eat……and we couldn’t believe it, they did!
St. Jean de Losne is a small village with good shops and a Sunday market which we unfortunately missed as we were heading off for 9am to try and do the journey to Dijon in one day.
Thankfully, the morning was dry and sunny and we set off early, at 9am. We had a big day ahead of us 20 locks and 30km heading NW and we had until 7pm to get to Dijon, with one hour lunch stop. We just missed the first lock with another boat locking through before us, so we had to wait half an hour until the lock was emptied and made ready for us. After this small setback, things went in our favour and we eventually caught up with the boat ahead.
The weather throughout the day was kind apart from a 10 minute shower just before a lock and when the rain started, about 100 bees descended on us, it was awful. Jim was on the fly bridge waving them off and I shut myself inside the boat, screaming like a banshee. I managed to get them out from inside and then closed the windows. The rain went off, and then they all disappeared, how bizarre!
We continued in the sun again, with the other boat having stopped, so we made better headway on our own.
We arrived at Dijon at 18.45, absolutely knackered. 20 locks in one day covering 17nm is definitely our limit. We both were totally exhausted, but we made it, got tied up in the Port de Plaisance and had a well deserved beer on board.
I didn’t have the energy to make the planned dinner of chilli, so we can look forward to that tomorrow night, a microwave dinner of Saute de Veau et ses petits legumes avec Rosti Potato followed by Crème aux Oeufs with Grand Marnier, was just what the doctor ordered for tonight!
We will stay here in Dijon a few days and then head a little further north as we have been told it is really beautiful.
Dijon is 47’18’.845N 005’001’.654E and we travelled 17nm today.
