Au Revoir Dijon, Bonjour Fleury Sur Ouche, Canal de Bourgogne - Saturday 20th September, 2008

Our friends, Charlie and Elaine, arrived on Wednesday 17th September and it was great to see them.
We had a super meal out with them at Le Germinal in Dijon on Thursday evening, a traditional Bourgogne restaurant serving great French food.

Charlie and Elaine started with Snails with each one set on crusty bread drenched in garlic butter and then we all had Frogs legs, prepared four different ways. Charlie’s were hot & spicy, Elaine’s garlic, onion, tomato, mine were garlic, onion, parsley, and Jim’s were garlic, onion, mustard and cream. They were served with rice and salad and were very juicy and tasty, they must have been huge frogs! Jim and I had desserts of Ile Flotante plus fabulous spiced gingerbread with vanilla and strawberry ice cream inside, soft meringue on the outside, a measure of cognac over the top and flambĂ©ed! French styled Baked Alaska, superb!
It was a great night and the restaurant was cleverly decorated throughout with green frogs everywhere, all shapes and sizes. At the end of the meal, the lovely waiter who was from Rwanda, presented us with frogs on sticks (see photo). We christened them Kermit, Boris, Gilbert and Tiger Lilly!
On Friday, Elaine and I went to the fab market in Dijon in the morning and we relaxed in the sunshine in the afternoon on GG, with a siesta later on, and a Roast Chicken dinner aboard.
We all left this morning ay 10.30am heading West towards Fleury sur Ouche with 13 locks ahead of us. The weather has improved a lot with bright sunshine again, although it is cold at night and in the mornings, a sign Autumn is well and truly here!
We had a beautiful sail in wonderful sunshine, with the autumn colours in the trees just stunning - and Elaine cycling some of the way - see picture of her being overtaken by an electric wheelchair! - We arrived at 5.15pm and tied up alongside using our stakes. First stop, the pub across the bridge for a few beers and to check out the opening times of the Restaurant next door, for dinner. And guess what, they had decided not to open that evening! Elaine and I explored the rest of the small village, but that was the only restaurant in it.......So it was back to GG to raid the fridge for dinner, and beaucoup du vin et bieres!
Fleury sur Ouche is 47’18’.838N 004’51’.682E and we travelled 8.61nm today.
