A Taste of France at Jerome Brochot, Montceau Les Mines - Friday 22nd August 2008

We felt we had to share this with you all as a seperate blog entry, as it deserves its own page!

We had an amazing meal on Friday evening at Restaurant Jerome Brochot, which has one Michelin Star and is part of Hotel Le France.
The Restaurant had a stunning, simple, cream interior with polished dark wood floors. We started with a glass of champagne each as an aperitif and were served an assortment of appetizers to go with it, all perfectly lined up on their own beautiful little serving plate. There was a cherry tomato stuffed with rabbit, smoked mackerel. a creamed asparagus mousse, tete de veau (veal’s head!), and wafer thin poppy seeded bread (sorry we forgot to take a photo!), and then after this, we were served some diced chicken set in aspic with a simple sorbet.

The chef had already taken our order (thank goodness we didn’t order starters) of Cote de Boeuf Charolais for 2 which then arrived beautifully presented and cooked to perfection on a concrete sculptured platter served with amazing girolles, cabbage stuffed with carrots, mange tout, zuccini and roast potatoes. The meat was lovely with a superb texture (the Charolais cows are local to this area and are totally white, including their eyes). We had a lovely bottle of Cote de Provence red wine to compliment the beef (cheapest on the menu at 28€ a bottle!).

Our desserts were a work of art, an assortment of different desserts including a hot chocolate mini souffle, sorbet and an amazing explosive tower of chocolate with fresh fruit, which was full of space dust - remember this? - little particles of orange that exploded in your mouth and rattled your teeth.(sorry again, we were so taken aback with the perfection of the dessert, we ate them before remembering to take a photo!) - Unbelievable. 2 glasses of red dessert wine went perfectly with this.

We then ordered some coffee to perk us up and along came a plate of petit fours!
A very memorable meal and the chef chats to you at the end of it, so very personal service indeed. He speaks no English at all, so we told him that the meal was tres bon and that seemed to please him!
We then walked very slowly back to GG, welcoming the walk and the fresh air.
The website is http://www.jeromebrochot.com/ and if you are ever in Montceau Les Mines, this is well worth a visit, but be prepared to spend a few hundred euros.
