Au Revoir Fleury Sur Loire, Bonjour Decize, Canal Lateral a la Loire - Monday 11th August 2008

Il pleut, beaucoup! We waited until 12.30 to see if the rain would stop, but no luck, so we headed off SE towards Decize, dressed accordingly, travelling at the usual 5 knots.
We were surprised how many people were using the canal, most of them hire boats (bumper boats we call them as when they are in locks they bump off the sides as they cannot control them), in this weather, likely because they only have a week’s holiday and they are making the most of it.
We helmed from inside, the first time we have done this since arriving in France, it was most peculiar, only going outside to do the ropes for the locks - I had the best job, up front with the bow line, in my yellow cagoule, - note the grumpy face! - the Captain, obviously pulling rank, preferred the stern line, under cover of the fly bridge!
We did the first 2 locks by 1.30pm which was good, it helped that the lock doors were open for our arrival as we expected, with boats passing us the other way.
We then had the descending lock into the marina at Decize which we reached at 2.15pm and then we tied up at 2.30pm. The marina is run by Crown Blue Line, a bumper boat supplier. The facilities and clean and tidy, with showers, electricity, water and a supermarket close by.
We will relax here, waiting for My Time to catch us up, until Friday.
Decize is 46’49’.217N 003’27’.287E.
