Au Revoir Cepoy, Bonjour Montargis, Canal De Briare - Sunday 20th July 2008

We headed off at 11am this morning, towards Montargis, only 4 nautical miles away, with Jim feeding our huge adopted family of geese before we left. We are now at the end of the Canal De Loing and Montargis is on the Canal De Briare.
The weather was a bit cloudy, but still warm, ideal canal boating weather!
We did 5 locks today, all of them manageable from aboard, without having to climb the slimey ladders, and the last lock at Montargis was a huge 4.80metres rise, with thankfully a lock-keeper with a huge hook who dropped it down the chamber for you to put your line through and then he handed it back down to you once it was around the securing bollard.
Montargis is a beautiful little village, nicknamed Little Venice. There were no spaces left close to the Ecluse, so we had to continue and tie alongside, using our stakes again, further down the Canal, with the bikes coming in handy again to get us to town to explore.
There are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants here, with beautiful little bridges all decorated with pretty flowers. It really is a mini Venice.
On Monday morning, we secured a space when other boats left, so that we were more secure with electricity. This makes things a bit more comfortable!
We will spend a few days here, relaxing and doing some cycling, before moving on to our next planned stop, Chatillon-Coligny.
Montargis is 47’59’.437N 002’44’.052E.
