We had a lovely time at St. Mammes, relaxing, and there was the most fabulous Sunday market where Kath and I did some retail therapy, as well as making some home made burgers for the afternoon BBQ on board, which we enjoyed with inclusive entertainment of Water Jousting!
There were new friends here, another Familie du Canard, with the smallest babies we have ever seen!
The bars were ‘interesting’, especially the Captain’s Bar where a French man decided to drop his trousers!
There was a ‘Bal’ to celebrate Bastille Day on Sunday night, when the local blue rinse brigade put their twin sets on and danced in the square to the hired DJ. It would have been better if there had been more people there, but they seemed to enjoy it nonetheless.
We enjoyed a fireworks show from the neighbouring villages and then set off on Monday lunchtime, after Jim and Billy had cycled to Moret Sur Loing, a very small distance away, to check for places there. We were in luck, as a boat just left as we were sailing through the bridge (originally we had planned to raft up with an English barge who had kindly offered). Superb!
What a stunning little Medieval place, with beautiful shops, restaurants, bars and quaint streets and the village was within walking distance of the Halte Fluviale.
As it was Bastille Day, with no locks working, this was the perfect stop overnight for us all, as it was still close to the train station for Billy & Kath’s departure tomorrow.
We booked La Garotte Creperie Restaurant for dinner at 7pm, which was a lovely, traditional, French restaurant, and had a great meal to celebrate Kath’s imminent birthday. Starters of Soupe de Poisson and Petite Salades, then Mains of Crepes stuffed with Fruits de Mer/Poulet, Champignons, Pommes de Terre/Jambon, Oeufs, Pommes de Terre, followed by Desserts to die for (literally, after eating so much!) - CafĂ© Gourmand (Coffee served with Baileys and Chantilly cream), Crepe with Fresh Lemon and Sugar, Crepe with Lime Sorbet and Mandarin Liquer and Crepe with Sorbet and Grand Marnier, and the boys still had room for Cognac too! A lovely way to round off our last evening together.
GG will stay here until Thursday so that we can catch up with the washing and cleaning, as well as appreciate this lovely town, before moving through the Canal Du Loing.
