We had a really nice overnight stop at Rueil Malmaison and we had an Indian Curry in a lovely restaurant, for dinner, which was not quite up to the Shish Mahal in Park Road, Glasgow standards, but good just the same! We reeked of garlic all night afterwards and today!
We left at 9.30am heading for the last main lock before Paris with the weather incredibly hot and almost unbearable (30 degrees) and a clear blue sky, so absolutely relentless heat. Most of the sights on route were quite industrial and we arrived at Suresnes lock at 12 noon and having radioed ahead when we were 5 minutes away, the lock-keeper had the gate ready for our arrival. We locked through well again, they seem to be getting easier…..and we looked for a stopping place listed on the navicarte which didn’t seem to exist (not the first time this has happened!). So we continued into Paris and the first sight of the Eiffel Tower was breathtaking. It looks so different when you are on your own boat travelling on the Seine, it was unbelievable. The bridges were also so beautiful, with details on them never seen by us before when sightseeing. We passed Notre Dame in its greatness and arrived at the waiting pontoon at Paris Arsenal at 3pm, and by this time, we had had no lunch and were frazzled by the sun! We waited for the green light with quite a difficult current pulling the boat, entered the lock and locked through with another boat that was behind us, and into the Marina. This lock was quite difficult as we were close to the lock doors at the front and the water was gushing through quite rapidly creating a bit of a problem for us at the start, but when the flow steadied, things settled down. We both were totally exhausted by the time we checked in and berthed and headed for a cold shower right away which was wonderful.
The marina has a fabulous outlook, we are right in the centre of Paris, close to the Place de la Bastille with everything on our doorstep. The marina has full facilities including washing machines (Hooray!) and we met up with Julie and Martin from My Time again who are here until tomorrow for drinks on their boat.
Paris is 48’50’.953N 002’22’.016E.
We will be here for 8 days to relax, chill out, and enjoy Paris.
