We breakfasted and left at 10.30pm in the pissing rain, with the yellow cagoules coming in handy. We then travelled the short 10km to Chartrettes, through one more lock, with no problems, apart from the rain, and then the sun shone, perfect!
Lovely stopping place with good supermarket, restaurants and an absolute character of a capitainerie - typically French with a good sense of humour. The locals were lovely with great information.
We had a lovely meal in Le Chalet Restaurant, kindly paid for by Klepto and Spongey on Friday night which was tres bien! Starters were 12 Escargots, Foie Gras served with a delicious small glass of sweet wine, Crayfish and Mushrooms with flaky pastry and Goats Cheese tartlet, Mains of Grilled Entrecote Steak with Pommes Puree, Braised Duck with Mushrooms, Sole Meneuire and Braised Rabbit with Mustard. This followed by some cheese and great desserts of Vanilla Ice Cream with Cherries and Kirsch and Crème Brulee, topped the meal off perfectly.
The restaurant was really pretty, we had a lovely table outside surrounded by lovely geraniums and plants.
