We are experiencing blistering heat here in France just now, and today it was well into the 70's, with the forecast for tomorrow and Monday in the high 80/90's.
Today, we went to the Steam Festival, near Digoin, and saw some amazing steam driven trains, carriages & also some beautiful classic cars. It was very well organised and at 10 euros per couple for the whole week-end pass, good value for money. I even got a shot on a miniature steam driven train and I was well impressed it was able to pull us all up a small hill on the track! Lunch was absolutely delicious at 15 euros per head and for that you got 2 pieces of bread, delicious beef stew with vegetable cakes, apple tart and 3 pieces of cheese. I wasn't that hungry, so we had one meal between us and I just had some of the bread and cheese, a mouthful of Jim's stew and half the apple tart, washed down with a beer & cider. There was also some traditional french music and stalls selling bric a brac, wine and traditional fayre. We got a lovely bottle of Pouilly Fuisse wine for 12 euros, which is a great price for this wine.
After the Festival, we drove to Le Cruesot to buy train tickets for Jim's trip back next week to attend Norrie's funeral. I unfortunately cannot go along as we still have the workmen here finishing off the final work on the house and don't want to leave them 'home alone!'. So Jim will leave on Monday morning, I leave on Saturday to come back to Glasgow for my week working to close off the month end , and Jim comes back on Sunday - ships that pass in the night or what!
We also enjoyed some late afternoon sunshine in the garden and managed 2 games of table tennis which Jim won, before feeling exhausted in the heat.
We then managed to find one of the frogs in the drain sludge and Jim managed to catch it in a bucket and we re-homed it to its new 'pad' in the little pond Louis had prepared. When we drained the water from the rain pool last week to re-home them, they had disappeared and we thought perhaps they had either hopped off or been eaten by a bird. But No, Freddy the frog without Freda has been saved and is now happy swimming in his new pond. We may eventually find Freda too, let's hope so. Thanks also to Bert for the pond weed.
