Bonne Annee 2013 - Tuesday 1/1/13

Happy New Year! Well, that's another year gone, where does the time go......it is just flying by. We had a good french 'Hogmanay' at La Fontaine restaurant in close by Chassy with a beautiful meal of Foie Gras, Monkfish, Tournedos of Duck and Pineapple Tarte Tatin, it was really delicious. We came back to the house for the bells to set off some fireworks and lanterns, but unfortunately, it was too windy, so that was a bit of a damp squib! We enjoyed Hogmanay Live on television and Chewin the Fat, then headed to bed at 2am our time. New Year's day was lovely and relaxing and we has some lovely lunch-time canapes and champagne and then our neighbour Jean Francois popped around with some home-made chocolates from his patisserie shop and to wish us a Bonne Annee. He stayed for a glass of whisky and then headed off to his mothers in Uxeau for dinner. We then enjoyed our lovely home-made steak pie, roast potatoes and carrots, for dinner, with Apple ice cream for dessert. James opened a very special bottle of wine for the meal, a 1979 Margaux given to him by his first wife, 25 years ago. He was going to keep it for his first grandchild, but as this doesn't seem to be on the horizon and with the wine beginning to age too much, he decided to drink it now, and he said it was truly exceptional. We must stop all this eating and drinking..........
