We will be spending a lot more time in France this year, as we have bought a house in Marly Sur Arroux, Saone et Loire district, which is about 1 mile from the closest main market town of Gueugnon and an hour's drive from our boat Ginger Grouse II in Chalon.
We have the most magnificent views of the countryside from the house and are looking forward to having a garden and learning how to prune the fruit trees. There is also a swimming pool which needs a bit of work done on it, but hopefully we should be able to get this ready if not for this summer, then next.
We sign the paperwork and get the keys on 7th February and then the fun will begin to make our house a home. The house is in lovely condition and just needs a bit of updating.
We will both get stuck in from the 7th February onwards and I will go back to work a couple of weeks later, with Jim staying on in France until mid-March, continuing with the work. After his customary St. Patrick's band gigs, he will head back again to France, taking the new kitchen back with him in his wee Red Van!
We both plan to move into the house June/July and retire to hopefully lots of happiness in our new home, hot sunshine, good boating on the canals, lovely french food and exquisite french wines.
