Fascinating & Fabulous Genova - Sunday 15th March, 2009

What an amazing city Genova is. There is a huge amount to do and see here and we did our best to cover as much as possible today.
First, we visited the Neptune Galleon, with its decorative figureheads. This fabulous galleon was in the Roman Polanski film ‘Pirati’.
Then we went on the ‘Bigo’ which is a glass rotating lift that gives you a birds eye view of Genova. Jim coped well with his vertigo!
After that, we boarded the little Tourist Train for a 40 minute ride around the city taking in Theatres, Churches, Squares and Gardens - unfortunately the commentary was only in Italian, but nevertheless, it was most enjoyable.
We had a light lunch in one of the little cafes and then we headed for the Museum of the Sea. This, we have to say, was one of the best maritime museums we have ever visited. It was so well layed out over 4 floors with the Ground Floor dedicated to Christopher Columbus and the Age of the Oar, First & Second Floor dedicated to the Age of the Sail, and Third Floor dedicated to the Age of Steamships where you are given a little Italian Passport and Ticket and take a journey from Genoa to Ellis Island, New York.
After all this, we were completely knackered and were thankful for the Rugby to relax to.
We love Genoa, but weather permitting, we will move on tomorrow, as it is quite pricey here. And if the weather is not right, the girl in the Harbour Office has promised to speak to her boss to see if we can get a discount!
