We headed off early this morning, to catch the 10.04 train from Genova to Santa Margherita Ligure. A bargain at €2.40 each single for the 1 hour journey.
The wind today, has turned to the North and it is considerably colder because of this. The sun is still shining at least, and there has been no rain for almost 2 weeks now!
Santa Margherita Ligure is a really beautiful little village with a nice marina in the centre, and lovely restaurants and cafes close by.
We had a smashing lunch in Pescatori Restaurant who do a fixed price meal for €18 per head, including some wine. The Restaurant was very ‘Italian’ with little traditional wooden tables inside and out and everything they served was home-made. We started with Tagliatini in a Fish Sauce which was really tasty and then we had Baked Fish & Potatoes with Olives & Pine Nuts - this is a Ligurian speciality and it was truly delicious. To finish we had Lemon Sorbet laced with Vodka and coffee. Half a Litre of wine was included, so this was really good value for money.
After lunch, we walked to the Santa Margherita Cathedral which was absolutely breathtaking, inside and out. We both have never seen anything like it.
This is a lovely little place with much to tempt us back, and we may stay here overnight in the Marina when we set off again in about 3 weeks time on our travels SE.
