Macon was a lovely town, again you never see the best of things when you arrive on a Sunday or Monday, as everything is closed for most of the time.
There is a beautiful church in the main square which dominates things as well as lovely, quaint streets full of little shops.
We had a lovely wine tasting followed by dinner in the Maison Maconnais des Vins on Monday night. We bought 5 bottles, all very keenly priced and excellent value for money. Dinner was in beautiful surrounding upstairs and we had Salads to start with, one with Smoked Salmon and Prawns and one with Escargots, followed by Pork Mignon served with Sauce au Poivre and Dauphinoise Potatoes and then we had delicious desserts of Baba au Rhum and Ice Cream. All washed down with a bottle of Macon Aze white wine.
We left this morning at 10.20am and as we approached the exit saw a Finnish boat in trouble, stuck on the sandbank. We shouted across to him and chatted to him on the VHF and then we took a stern line from him, attached it to our stern cleat and pulled him off safely. Apparently he had been there all night! So that was our good deed for the day done.
The weather today is as forecast, bright sunshine with wispy clouds. We thought we were going to have a delayed start this morning, as fog came down last night and was still around at 9am this morning, but by the time we had showered, the sun had burned it off and it had disappeared.
We travelled South at 6 knots down stream in beautiful sunshine and arrived at Thoissey at 12.20pm. After a spot of lunch on board, we cycled 6km to Romaneche-Thorins heading for the Touroparc en Beaujolais, home of a zoological park and attractions. We had such fun walking around the park in the sunshine, for a change! The giraffes were my favourite, so cheeky.....
Thoissey is 46’09’.833N 004’67’.410E and we travelled 11.32nm today.
