We enjoyed 2 nights here again, at Chalon Sur Saone, with the berthing fees cheaper again due to it being October (11€ for 2 nights including electricity, water and showers).
The Music Bar that was closed for annual holidays the previous visit, was open, and it was lovely to have cocktails there listening to blues and jazz music. Their Blue Gin’s were amazing, but so they should be at 7.50€ each!
We had an excellent meal out on Thursday night at Restaurant Chez Jules. It was beautifully decorated with a theme of bright red poppies and chickens.
We started with an amazing Amuse Bouche (chef’s complimentary appetizer) of Smoked Mussels and Vegetables in a Horseradish Cream and then had delicious Langoustines as an Entrée served in a filo basket with vegetables in a creamy sauce - formidable! The main course was Grilled Fillet of Bar served with pureed potatoes and turnip, and diced vegetables - it was perfectly cooked and we again both cleared our plates. Desserts were a split decision for once and Jim had Souffle of Vanilla Glace with Raspberries and I had my usual Assiette Gourmand - the plate of mini desserts - which consisted of Crème Brulee, Coffee Parfait (Jim had this - I hate anything coffee flavoured!), Vanilla Parfait and the most delicious Chocolate Mousse - fab. We finished with a couple of Espressos and a Cognac, with the coffee coming in beautiful little red cups and a miniature red tin bucket with sugar.
We rounded off the evening with another Blue Gin at the Music Bar, with the owner playing us a cd of Amazing Grace on the Bagpipes, to make us feel at home!
We left this morning at 11am, heading South towards Tournus, with only 1 lock ahead of us.
The weather was very overcast with a chilly wind, but thankfully dry, and we helmed from inside with the heaters on so that we were more comfortable!
The countryside was a bit unremarkable, especially with the hanging clouds, and we reached the lock at 12.30pm. We locked through with 2 other boats and arrived in Tournus at 1.50pm.
We berthed on the Halte Fluviale, which is free with electricity, with a great location right in the middle of town.
We will explore Tournus for a couple of days and then head to Macon on either Saturday afternoon or Sunday.
Tournus is 46’33’.790N 004’54’.793E and we travelled just under 18nm today.
