After a pleasant overnight stop at Genelard, we left this morning at 10.15am, with clear blue skies and hot sunshine.
The scenery on route was lovely, this new canal winds its way NE, instead of in a straight line which can become a bit boring!
We passed through 7 locks, the majority of which were automatic with some of them manual (students prepare these for you by manually opening the gates and locking you through).
There were also 3 lifting bridges as we arrived at Monceau Les Mines. To make the first one ready, you pull a blue cord and then obey the lights. The traffic is then stopped and the bridge lifts to let you through. The second one is controlled by a manned tower and they also control the last one too.
We arrived at 1.15pm, travelling a total of 10nm, in time for a well deserved beer in the Brasserie de la Port which is right next to the Port de Plaisance. There are excellent finger pontoons with electricity, water and showers here and for 3 nights, it was only 16 euros inclusive, so great value.
We will stay here until Sunday (there is thunder and lightning forecast for most of the day tomorrow), and hopefully take in the Saturday market which is right next to the marina as well as a nice restaurant (here we go again!).
Montceau Les Mines is 46'40'.532N 004'21'.760E and we have travelled 1402nm up to this point.
