Hot Hot Hot! - We left at 10am this morning with very hot sunshine again, heading for Sancerre (Port De Plaisance St. Thibault which is 1km from Sancerre).
We decided to do this in one day, as the forecast for tonight and tomorrow is thundery showers, so better to be here in Sancerre for some wine tasting, than held up somewhere else!
We crossed the Pont de Canal at Briare, what a feeling going across the River Loire, with tourists on either side taking our pictures and some making a video.
The scenery on route was lovely, we passed huge fields of sunflowers on one side, with the motorway on the other, how bizarre!
We did 6 locks in total, including the 3 coming out of Briare, all manned, except one small one which we had to do ourselves.
We stopped at Beaulieau for an hour for lunch on board, and went for a walk to see the pretty little town, had a beer in the bar at the top of the hill, and then we went on our way again.
We arrived at St. Thibault at 6.15pm and were very lucky to get a space, there were only 2 left. We tied up, checked in with the Capitainerie, who runs a free shuttle service to Sancerre - perfect, and then had a well deserved dinner on board.
We will stay here until Monday at least to sample as many wines as we can possibly fit in!
St. Thibault is 47’20’.380N 002’51’.856E and we travelled 23.39nm in total today from Briare.
